Prato Expo, first held in 1979, is one of the most important international trade fairs in the textile sector. It is held twice a year, once for the Spring/Summer collection and again for the Autumn/Winter collection, at Fieramilanocity (Portello Area) in the sphere of Milano Unica – the textile trade fair that combines the five most important Italian textile fairs, Idea Biella, Idea Como, Moda In, Prato Expo and Shirt Avenue.

The most prestigious firms in the Prato area present their collections to a selected, qualified clientele at Prato Expo.
About 6,000 operators in the sector visit Prato Expo, coming from the European Union countries (Germany, France, England, Spain, Northern Europe), as well as from the United States, Canada and the Far East (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong).
The importance of Prato Expo is also heightened by fact that it is the expression of a major industrial district, characterized by small and medium enterprises. The turnover in the textile sector for the Prato district amounts, indeed, to as much as 4,659 million euro, and 55% of this production is exported.
